The Inspector General of Police, Mrs. Merlyn Nachulu Yolamu, PPM, has expressed satisfaction with how her subordinates performed in the just-ended year, marking a positive development in policing matters.

This was revealed during three separate meetings she held on January 3, 2024 at Masuku, Chiponde, and Namwera Police formations, respectively.

Taking advantage of her availability in Mangochi, the IG showed motherly love by touring the said lower formations to appreciate and make the officers feel that they are part and parcel of the organization.

With a glamorous smile on her face, Yolamu revealed that the performance of officers around the nation in 2023 was splendid. She highlighted that over 40 rifles and various stolen items had been recovered in the just-ended year.

“I’m receiving a lot of compliments from the general public expressing their satisfaction with our work, and I attribute these efforts to you” Yolamu alluded.

The IG also applauded officers for working tirelessly in the just-ended festive season, which has resulted in peaceful celebrations and zero serious crime recorded.

However, Yolamu encouraged the officers to maintain a good relationship with the communities, provide quality services to the public, utilize their roles, continue providing quality services to the citizenry, and also collaborate with neighboring security institutions.

After addressing the officers, Yolamu also inspected the offices and staff houses.

Challenges of mobility, lack of houses, and increasing of manpower are some of the challenges all the formations presented to the Inspector General.

In her response, Yolamu assured that the government is working on improving their living conditions, including building houses. Another project of constructing police houses will start soon to create a conducive environment for police officers.

On challenges of mobility, Yolamu cited that the police are in the process of purchasing motorcycles, which will be distributed to rural police formations.

Speaking at the same gathering, Miss Violet Magwaya, Commissioner for the Eastern Region, thanked the IG for visiting the places.

Magwaya applauded the police formations for maintaining a good relationship with the communities, which has resulted in reducing some of the high prevalent crimes in the areas.

Mangochi Police Station Officer In-charge Mr Morgan Dzonzi, Assistant Commissioner of Police encouraged the officers to continue working according to the management’s expectations despite the challenges they are facing.
