The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) President Fleetwood Haiya has accepted a call to contest as Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President in the forthcoming electoral annual general meeting on December 16, 2023.

Haiya made the declaration at the Grand Place Hotel in Mzuzu on Sunday, November 5, 2023, during the press conference.

He said the decision has been made after a careful examination of all relevant factors and accepted the call from affiliates and Malawians with goodwill to serve as their FAM President, with a desire to offer the sport a renewed hope, vision, and purpose.

“I seek to bring dedicated, transparent, inclusive, competent, and people-centered leadership to develop, sustain and safeguard the future of our game. You will all agree with me that a collective duty to re-orient the state of our football into a strong and competitive footballing nation requires an accomplished football acumen and drive that place the interest of our game over and beyond personal interests and gains”,

“To our distinguished FAM affiliates, you are holding the fate of our game in your hands. You have a critical mandate to promote and protect the future of our football for generations to come from 16th December 2023 and beyond”, Haiya said.

He further said that he will soon share a blueprint that will propel an agenda for the joint efforts to take football to the next level.

He then appealed to all concerned parties to maintain unity of purpose, decency, and respect for each other for the game of football to develop.

Beach Soccer of Malawi and the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) have already nominated Haiya making him a legitimate candidate for the post.

Meanwhile, the incumbent FA President Walter Nyamilandu is yet to disclose his position.
