Police at Makokola in Mangochi district, have arrested a 20-year-old traditional healer, Andrew Simon, on allegations that he defiled a 13-year-old girl while administering traditional medicine at Mpemba 2 village.

It is reported that the suspect stays with his family within the same compound as the victim. Earlier in October, the victim, while chatting with the suspect’s wife, confided in her that she always feels stomachache, and the suspect’s wife suggested that she needed traditional medicine, which could be administered by her husband to cure her illness.

The wife explained to her husband, who invited the victim to follow him to his house, where she was given medicine after being incised on the lower abdomen.

It is alleged that on October 31, 2023, the suspect asked the victim to go to his house to collect more medicine, where he defiled her in his bedroom.

Later, the victim revealed the ordeal to her mother, who reported the incident at Makokola Police Unit, where she was issued a referral letter to Koche Health Centre, and the results have proved that she was defiled.

Meanwhile, Simon has been charged with having sexual intercourse with a child. He will appear before court after the completion of paperwork.

He hails from Sandika village, Traditional Authority Mlumbe, in Zomba district.
