The Japanese government has committed to support the country with fertilizer in this farming season as part of the recovery plan to the country’s economy.

The commitment was made on Tuesday at capital hill when the Japanese ambassador Youichi OYA paid a courtesy call to the Homeland Security Minister Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma.

OYA said that his government will provide a donation of fertilizer equivalent to 5 million US dollars that will be implemented through JICA.

OYA revealed that the fertilizer to be donated to Malawi is currently at the procurement stage.

” We are looking forward to helping the Malawi government through the donation of fertilizer and the two nations will continue working together for the benefit of people from the two nations,” OYA said.

The Japanese ambassador has further expressed his government’s commitment towards improving the country’s security by among others providing training to security officers.

Meanwhile, Homeland Security Minister Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma has thanked the Japanese ambassador for the gesture.

The minister further urged the ambassador to implement the project in good time for people to receive the fertilizer before the rains.

The Japanese government is already committing about 2 million USD through the implementation projects tackling areas of peace building, socio-economic empowerment and climate change adaptation.
